I first learned of 808s in 2008. That’s the year that Kanye West’s fourth album 808s & Heartbreak was released, where every track on the album included experimentation with the 808 drum machine. This got me digging into the breakdown and evolution of the instrument itself and listing out some of my favorite songs.

GarageBand is often disregarded as software for beginner-level producers to learn on, and then UPGRADE from. But that isn’t completely true.
